Messaging your inspector
What this screen is for. Asking your inspector a real question, on the record, right under your report. The thread lives at the bottom of every report you open in the portal — a person answers, not a bot. How to get there. Open the report and tap Message your inspector in the tools row (it scrolls you straight to the composer), or the report header's Ask a question link. What every button does The composer — "Write a question for your inspector…" → Send. Your bubble appears instantly on the right; the inspector's replies sit on the left as "Your inspector". Up to 2,000 characters; a counter appears only as you near the cap. "N new" badge and Mark as read — when your inspector has replied since you last looked, the thread heading shows how many, and Mark as read clears it. You also get a heads-up email when they reply — the conversation itself stays here. Refresh — re-checks now. The thread also checks itself every 15 seconds and whenever you come back to the tab. Who's who — you read as "You"; the other person on your side of the deal reads as "Your agent" or "Your client"; someone posting through the shared public link shows their typed name marked "via the shared link — unverified". Common questions "Will my inspector actually see this?" Yes — it lands in their dashboard's Messages inbox, and their reply comes back right here plus a heads-up to your email. "My report email never arrived — who do I tell?" Message your inspector here and they'll resend it; that's exactly what the thread is for. "Can my agent and I both use it?" Yes, on the same thread — each of you sees the other labelled in plain words. "Is this the chatbot?" No. The signed-in report deliberately has no chatbot — this thread, with your actual inspector, replaces it. The ask-the-report helper lives on the public report link. "It says I'm sending too fast." A brief pause between messages stops accidental double-sends — give it a moment and send again. Good to know The inspection firm's internal notes never appear here — what you see is the conversation with you. If a message fails to send, it says so and your words roll back into the box — nothing is lost. The unread marker is remembered on your device; in a private browsing window it won't persist between visits.
