Team — seats, pay splits, and payroll
What this screen is for. Everyone who can sign in, how each of them gets paid, and the payroll that fills itself in as jobs settle. An office login is included free; each extra inspector is $99 a month, added to your bill automatically — the bill follows the roster, never a counter. How to get there. Sidebar → Business → Team (owner only). Three sub-tabs — Seats · Pay splits · Payroll — that stay put in the web address. What every button does Seats: The roster — you first ("You — the owner · Rides your plan"), then every login with their role badge, their pay split in plain words (or a "Set a pay split" nudge), a Resend set-password email, and Remove. Add someone — two cards: Inspector ("walks houses and writes reports — gets their own jobs and their own pay split") or Office admin ("runs the schedule, the clients and the invoices — doesn't inspect"). Their name and email is all we need; they get a branded "you've been added to the team — set your password" email that names your firm and their seat (not a scary "reset your password" notice), with a link to set their own password. The cost line shows Stripe's own prorated math before you commit ("This adds $99.00/mo starting now — about $X for the rest of this month"), and office admins read "No extra charge." The confirmation names your whole new bill — "Your bill is now $398.00 a month — see it on Subscription ›" — and Subscription shows the same number. Remove — asks with the consequences spelled out: they can't sign in starting right away; their jobs stay with your firm; nothing they did is deleted — finished reports keep their name, earnings stay on the payroll record; and the $99 seat stops, prorated to the day. Removed people wait behind "N removed — show," where Re-hire brings them back — an email address is never burned. Pay splits: One plain sentence per person — "keeps 60% of the jobs they're the inspector on," "gets $50 per job" — percent or flat, for everyone or one person, optionally pinned to one service. The base is "what the job bills — the whole invoice, before any sales tax," with a live worked example. Nobody is paid anything until you set this — we never guess a number you didn't agree to. Remove retires a rule (old commissions keep their record); a duplicate rule for the same person and work is refused with the reason. Payroll: "Updated whenever you open this page" — as invoices settle, each person's earnings appear under Pay owed (an inspector's percent and an office flat fee can both land on one job). Every person on the roster gets an earnings card — the owner included, since owners with a pay split earn like anyone else. Mark as paid records the payout (period and tax year — it's irreversible, and the 1099 flag trips over $600). The period report downloads the Pay summary (CSV), plus the commission ledger and the payouts CSVs. Status words are "waiting to be paid" and "paid" — never accounting jargon. Common questions "How do I add my other inspector, and what does it cost?" Add someone → Inspector → name and email. $99 a month, prorated from today, shown before you tap. They set their own password from the email. "Can I remove a seat?" Yes — Remove on their row. The charge stops prorated to the day, their work stays, and Re-hire undoes it whenever. "How do I pay my inspector 60%?" Pay splits → Add a pay split → them → "keeps 60%" → Save. Payroll fills in from there as jobs settle. "Does the owner get a split too?" You can — the picker includes office staff and the owner, for firms that run everything through payroll. "What does my accountant get?" The Pay summary CSV per period, the commission ledger, and the payouts-and-1099 file — all from Payroll. "Why can't I add a seat right now?" A paused subscription pauses seat changes too — resume first. (The server enforces it, not just the button.) "I need more than 10 inspectors — how?" The add sheet nudges you to us past 10 seats: Contact us opens a Support ticket and we set you up with a special discount. Already over 10? You keep adding, no interruption. Good to know A seat's email must be unique — "That email already has a login" names the clash. Past 10 inspector seats, the 11th is a "contact us" moment, not a charge — the add sheet says "Contact HomeRecon for a special discount for more than 10." with a Contact us button to Support. A firm already over 10 keeps adding (nobody loses a seat they pay for), and a free office login never counts. At 20 logins the page also asks you to get in touch — nothing is wrong; bigger teams get set up properly by hand. Everyone on the team sees the whole firm's work — you assign jobs, not walls.
