AI Settings — your voice and the four tones

What this screen is for. Your voice is how every report sounds. The AI writes findings in the words you give it here — your phrases, your habits, the way you talk to a client. Fill this in once and every report you write uses it. How to get there. Sidebar → Inspections → AI Settings in the row of links under the header. Two tabs: Tone & your voice and What the AI looks for. What every button does Tone & your voice: The four tone buttons — Warm · Balanced · Direct · Detailed. How formal the writing is. Balanced ("clear, neutral, report-ready") is the recommended default; Warm is cheerful and encouraging, Direct is the shortest honest version — facts, then the fix — and Detailed covers causes, implications, and what a pro will check. The "Sounds like this" box shows the same finding written in whichever tone you pick — same facts, different register. Your starter-pack comments follow the tone too. Your voice — the big text box, and it's never empty: HomeRecon's default voice is already there, written in the first person from real inspection reports ("I write the way I talk to a client standing next to me: plain words, short sentences, no jargon…"). Keep it, change a line — the note flips to "Your own voice" — or write your own: who you are, how you talk to a client, phrases you always use, phrases you never use. Use HomeRecon's default — puts the original text back (it never blanks the box). Preview in my voice — rewrites the sample finding through your saved voice and tone so you can read the result before committing. It's a preview only; nothing is saved by it. What the AI looks for: One row per report section, each marked Default or Custom. This is the checklist the AI reads before it files your spoken note under a section — HomeRecon wrote a list for every section, shown as readable lines ("Roof access · Covering type · …"). Open a section and add "Your additions — things you always check here." Leave it blank to use HomeRecon's list as-is. Use default clears your additions; Apply stages the change. The Save bar: nothing on either tab persists until you tap the green Save AI settings button at the bottom — it turns to a green "Saved" tick, and a note reminds you while edits are unsaved. Changes apply to new findings and to reports you regenerate — never to reports you already delivered. Common questions "How do I make reports sound like me?" Write your voice in the box — even three sentences help — pick your tone, and Save AI settings. From then on a gutter note comes back in your gutter sentence. "Which tone should I pick?" Balanced unless you know you want warmer or blunter. You can also set a different tone for one particular job when you create the inspection — that job keeps its own tone. "What's already in the voice box — did I write that?" No — it's HomeRecon's default voice, and the note under the box says so. Edit any line and it's yours. "What does 'Preview in my voice' actually do?" It makes a real, one-off AI call that rewrites the sample using your saved voice. Read it, like it or tweak your voice, and preview again. Nothing saves until Save. "What is 'What the AI looks for'?" The per-section checklist behind the filing: when you talk, the AI checks your words against these lines to pick the right section. Add the things you always check; HomeRecon's list stays underneath. "Will this change reports I already sent?" No. Delivered reports never change; your settings shape new findings and regenerated reports. Good to know This page is for the roles that capture inspections. An office admin doesn't see the link and lands back on the dashboard from a saved one. "AI isn't available right now — try again in a minute" on the preview means the AI is briefly unreachable — your settings still save fine. The voice box shows a characters-left counter; if older saved instructions ran past the limit, a notice names which parts are read trimmed.
