Templates — your inspection checklists

What this screen is for. A template is your inspection checklist: which report sections you cover, in what order, and which lines you check. You pick one when you start an inspection. HomeRecon gives you eight to start — use them as they are, or make your own. How to get there. Sidebar → Inspections, then tap Templates in the row of links under the header. (From any settings page, the Templates pill in the row of five gets you here too.) What every button does New template — opens the editor with a blank template. Import my templates — jumps to Settings → Import with Templates and Spectora already picked, so bringing yours over is one screen away. The import itself is covered in Import data. Why this matters › — the short explanation: the AI files each finding under one of these sections, the report prints them in this order, you can add sections HomeRecon doesn't have, hide any line you never check — and reports you've already delivered never change when you edit a template. Each template tile — tap anywhere on it to open the editor. The badge says HomeRecon (one of the starters) or Yours (anything you made, imported, or duplicated). The small line underneath shows the inspection type and section count, plus "Custom order" if you've rearranged it. Add the Kitchen section — a one-tap nudge that appears only on templates missing the Kitchen (it became its own report chapter). Tap it once and it's done. ⋯ (the three dots) — Duplicate makes "(copy)" with everything inside; Delete asks first and tells you the honest consequence: inspections using this template fall back to the standard checklist for their type. Deleting can't be undone. Inside the editor: Template name (required) · Based on (the inspection type it starts from — changing it re-seeds the sections until you've customized them) · Description (when you'd use it). Sections this template covers — the 13 report sections as tick-tiles, each showing its line count. Tick a section on and it joins the end of your walk. See the lines · hide any you never check — opens a section's lines, each with a switch. Switch one off and it reads "Hidden — won't show on this template": it leaves the capture checklist, the completeness count, and the report, all at once. Reorder list — drag sections (or Move up / Move down) into the order you actually walk a house; Done reordering finishes and Reset to standard order puts HomeRecon's walk back. Add my own section — for anything HomeRecon's list doesn't cover: a pool, a well, an ADU. Name it, add the lines you check, and it shows up on your capture screen and in your report just like the rest. Create template / Save changes — the green button, always visible at the bottom of the sheet. It stays grey until the template has a name and at least one section. Common questions "What templates do I start with?" Eight, shown in a fixed order — Residential House (Default) always first, Classic always last — so the list reads the same for everyone (renaming one never moves it). Four by property type — Residential House (Default), Country Estate / Acreage, Apartment / Condo, and Duplex / Multi-Unit — then four organized to a standard: InterNACHI Standard, ASHI Standard (2014), ASHI Standard (2026), and Classic (the familiar roof-first, by-system layout). Your own templates follow the eight, alphabetically. The four standards cover the exact same lines as the rest; they only change the order the sections come in (their tile shows a "Custom order" tag). Eight to start — you can have as many as you like. "How do I make my own?" New template, or open a starter's ⋯ menu and Duplicate, then shape the copy. "How do I hide a line I never check?" Open the template → tick into the section → See the lines → switch the line off. It's gone from that template's checklist and reports. "How do I add a pool (or well, or ADU) section?" Open the template → Add my own section → name it and add its lines → Save. "If I edit a template, do my old reports change?" No. Delivered reports keep exactly the sections and lines they were written with, forever. "How do I bring my templates from Spectora or HomeGauge?" Import my templates — it lands you on the import screen with the right choices made. "Where do I pick the template for a job?" When you create the inspection — the Template choice in the New inspection window. There's no template picker on the job page afterwards; you can also save a job's setup as a template from the capture screen when you finish. Good to know Templates are for the people who capture inspections. An office admin doesn't see the Templates button, and the page sends them back to the dashboard if they open a saved link. Renaming your own section is safe — findings already filed under it stay put. Deleting a template never deletes inspections — they just fall back to the standard checklist for their inspection type.
